Q #1: Why should I buy this app when there are several others in this category?

A: Although the original 'Titans of Space' is a pioneer in VR, the market has already grown by leaps and bounds. The educational space experience category in VR is still fairly small, so each of the existing entries are actually quite different in what they offer. With 'Titans of Space PLUS', I've tried to create a deeper and more intimate experience that is both comfortable and thrilling. 'Titans of Space PLUS' is not a 360 video, it is self-paced, immersive, informative, tells a story, and is made with care.

Q #2: What is the difference between the 'Titans of Space PLUS' and the original 'Titans of Space' on the Gear VR store?

A: The original 'Titans of Space' is a Gear VR launch title (early 2015) that is essentially a stripped-down port of the original prototype demo on the Rift DK1.

Compared to the original, the PLUS version brings:
  • Lots of polish and a more streamlined user experience,
  • a comfort mode,
  • narration with subtitles,
  • improved visuals - just about everything has had a facelift,
  • new supplemental imagery at most tour stops,
  • more text, and more up-to-date factoids,
  • additional tour content,
  • re-translated for the most popular languages,
  • improved performance,
  • and support for the new Gear VR orientation controller.
The PLUS version also brings some of the improvements made for Titans of Space 2.0 (Rift/Vive), and then takes it further still.

Q #3: Why does 'Titans of Space PLUS' have a price tag when the original was free?

A: 'Titans of Space PLUS' represents months of hard work and lack of sleep, and free apps don't pay the bills. I've also been told that that the original should never have been free in the first place - the original's price of $0 was set at a time when getting exposure as a developer was more important to me than staying funded.

Q #4: Does this work with the new Gear VR controller? If so, how is it used in this app?

A: Yes, 'Titans of Space PLUS' fully supports the new Gear VR controller with orientation tracking. This controller is used for interacting with a laser pointer instead of with your head gaze.

Q #5: Why is 'Titans of Space PLUS' a separate app instead of an update to the original 'Titans of Space'?

A: There are LOTS of reasons 'Titans of Space PLUS' will be released as a new and separate app. The original 'Titans of Space' fully supports the Note 4, and the PLUS version (currently) does not. The original was free, and the PLUS version is not, and I wanted to avoid taking the IAP route. And, due to licensing reasons, I'm unable to gift the narration to the existing users of the original app. Above all, releasing a new app allows for me to make a clean break, charge for my work, and do so without abusing the review system.

Q #6: Is the narration available in other languages?

A: No, the voiceover and subtitles are English-only at this time. Sorry! However, all of the other text throughout the experience have been freshly translated into a handful of the most popular languages. If the PLUS version does well and there is demand for it, I may consider spending the money to translate the narration and/or subtitles.

Q #7: What languages are officially and fully supported?

A: English, German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. I chose these languages based on the stats of the original 'Titans of Space' app. 'Titans of Space PLUS' does have the option for a few other languages that have volunteer translations, but through no fault of those translators, they are now outdated and very incomplete. And again, the voiceover and subtitles are English only at this time. If the PLUS version does well, I may consider spending the money to translate the narration and/or subtitles.

Q #8: Will this work on my Note 4?

A: Unsure. 'Titans of Space PLUS' might not be immediately available to download for Note 4 owners. Testing on a Note 4 was impeded by the fact that my device started having problems and I had noticed a crash or two before that. I think it will work, but will need time to sort this out before I can enable it on the store for Note 4 owners.

Q #9: If I already played the original 'Titans of Space' on Gear VR, is it worth buying the PLUS version?

A: If you enjoyed the original 'Titans of Space' and would like experience a significant upgrade to just about every aspect of the experience, the PLUS version may be worth it to you. If you were hoping for a narration, the PLUS version may be worth it to you. And, if you *wanted* to enjoy the original, but had trouble with motion sickness, the PLUS version will absolutely be worth the purchase. If you didn't like the original for whatever reason, the improvements in the PLUS version may change your mind about it, but the app really isn't for everyone so it's best to wait to see what the reviews say.

Q #10: If I already played 'Titans of Space Cardboard VR' using a Cardboard-compatible device, is it worth buying the PLUS version on Gear VR?

A: Playing the Gear VR version of the original experience is already a huge step up from Cardboard's Titans of Space simply because the Gear VR offers a much more comfortable and immersive user experience, so I imagine it would be an even bigger leap from the Cardboard version to 'Titans of Space PLUS' on Gear VR. The narration included with PLUS is a bit more streamlined than in the Cardboard version as well. But again, if you didn't like the original for whatever reason, the improvements in the PLUS version may change your mind about it, but the app really isn't for everyone so it's best to wait to see what the reviews say.

Q #11: If I already own 'Titans of Space 2.0' for Rift or Vive, is it worth buying the PLUS version on Gear VR?

A: If you own both a Gear VR AND a Rift or Vive, it might NOT be worth purchasing PLUS on the Gear VR. All of the improvements made for 'Titans of Space PLUS' will soon make their way back to 'Titans of Space 2.0' on Rift and Vive, EXCEPT for the narration. I have other plans for the narration aspect coming later this year when 2.0 leaves early access. On the other hand, if you simply can't wait to hear this version of the narration and/or want a to take this experience with you in a portable VR solution, it may be worth it.

Q #12: If I buy the PLUS version on Gear VR, can I get a key for 'Titans of Space 2.0' on Rift or Vive?

A: Sorry, not at this time. This might change in the future.

Q #13: If I own 'Titans of Space 2.0' for Rift/Vive, can I get a key for the PLUS version on Gear VR?

A: Sorry, I'm unable to do this. However, note that all of the improvements made for 'Titans of Space PLUS' will soon make their way back to 'Titans of Space 2.0' except for the narration.

Q #14: If I have already purchased the Narration add-on for the original Titans of Space on Cardboard, can I get a key for the PLUS version on Gear VR?

A: Very sorry, I'm unable to do this. Quite simply a lot has changed since that Cardboard app.

Q #15: Are you going to port 'Titans of Space PLUS' to Google Daydream?

A: If the Gear VR version does well, then I will consider doing the work to put it onto other platforms.

Q #16: Are you going to port 'Titans of Space PLUS' to Cardboard?

A: Maybe, not exactly. If I bring the app to Daydream, the Daydream version may work on a Cardboard-compatible device, but I won't be explicitly supporting Cardboard as a platform.

Q #17: When will the improvements in 'Titans of Space PLUS' come to 'Titans of Space 2.0' for Rift and Vive?

A: I aim to do this shortly after 'Titans of Space PLUS' launches on Gear VR.

Q #18: If I have donated to you in the past, can I get a key for 'Titans of Space PLUS' on Gear VR?

A: Yes! Once keys are available, I'm going to reach out to those that told me they have a Gear VR. Or you can simply send an email to keys [at] drashvr [dot] com, and specifically request a Gear VR key.

Q #19: Are you ever going to work on something other than Titans of Space?

A: After 'Titans of Space 2.0' on Rift/Vive leaves early access, yes. I'm ready! :)
